Benefits of online advertising

PPC platforms such as Google Ads let you display your adverts to a bunch of people you choose (via keywords and phrases), in the right place (via mobile, tablet or desktops), and at a time that suits you (via advert scheduling). This gives you the opportunity to reach potential customers in a cost-effective and highly targeted manner online.

Paying only when a visitor clicks on one of your adverts creates a scalable traffic source that can be closely aligned with your website’s performance and ROI goals. With every penny spent accounted for, paid advertising offers an immediate way to grow your website’s visibility with full control.

FAQs

What is PPC (pay-per-click) advertising?

PPC or pay-per-click is a type of advertising model where you pay a fee every time someone clicks on one of your online adverts – Google Ads is by far the largest PPC platform. The price per click depends on lots of different factors but you can set daily and monthly budgets – clicks can costs as little as 1p or as much as £20+, depending on the industry. Every penny spent can be fully tracked to give you insight into how your budget is performing.

PPC is different to SEO as you pay to instantly drive traffic to your website through targeted adverts. These adverts show in search results and are triggered to display when a user searches a keyword or phrase that you are targeting (PPC can also run across social media platforms).

SEO, on the other hand, is a much more long-term strategy that aims to generate organic traffic from search engine results.

How do I know if PPC is right for my site?

Paid advertising is an effective and instant way to drive targeted traffic to your website. It can be used for newly launched websites which may not yet generate any traffic or for already established sites that are looking to increase traffic and sales. It can be used to support brand awareness, enter new niches or to find new customers online.

As it requires an on-going advertising budget, ideally, PPC will be used as part of a wider digital strategy to drive traffic to your site as it is not good practice to have all your traffic coming from one source (especially because with PPC you have to pay for every visitor!).

How much does monthly management cost?

Monthly PPC management fees start at £400 per month. Large PPC accounts that run lots of adverts across lots of campaigns will cost more to manage. I do not lock you into a contract or add extra performance based percentage fees. If you want to stop, all I ask is that you provide 30 days notice.

Monthly management involves continual advert, targeting and budget optimisations, helping you to get the most from your online ad budget.

How big does my PPC budget need to be?

For websites that are testing PPC for the first time, I recommend an initial minimum ad budget of £250 to £500, so that the account can collect enough data and strategies can be tested. This data can then be used to optimise the account moving forwards if performance is successful. Depending on how much traffic you want to generate using paid advertising, monthly account budgets can range from £100 to £100,000.

As PPC advertising spend is fully tracked, if an account is generating a good return on investment (ROI) it would be wise to increase the budget to drive bigger results.

Once up and running, PPC accounts will require a monthly budget to keep adverts showing and generating traffic. This spend is paid directly to the platform and is on top of my monthly management fee.

How do you report on progress?

For clients who pay for on-going PPC management, I provide a detailed monthly performance report that covers work carried out, account spend and advert performance including traffic and conversions (if being tracked). I can tailor reports to meet your exact needs and can also be available to talk over the phone.
